Erika Tan

Erika Tan was commissioned by Picture This to respond to the archives at the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum in Bristol.

This work Persistent Visions formed part of the Ghosting project, Erika also contributed to the accompanying publication.

Having grown up in a commonwealth country, Singapore, and with her background in anthropology, Erika Tan's interest is in museological issues such as the nature, status and classification of archive collections. Her work is often informed by specific cultural, geographical or physical contexts - exploring different media to excite and confront an audience.

Erika Tan studied Social Anthropology and Archaeology at King's College, London before enrolling in 1993 at Beijing University to study Film Directing. From 1995 to 1997 she studied Film and Video and later Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London. The artist lives and works in London.
