by Claire Hooper
'Eris', a sequel to Hooper's 2010 film NYX, was produced during Claire Hooper's time at Picture This through the Sea-change residency.
Eris looks at the ancient Greek goddess of Strife, exploring what we understand Eris to signify, evidenced in the names of her children; Murder, Ruin, Hunger and Misery. Eris, like Nyx, is a film about a family of words, and how their lexical organisation addresses a system of experience. Based on a real life story of a close friend and influenced by the R&B music video 'epic' genre, Eris uses a narrative basis to challenge the limits and connections wrought by the Greek's in their theogony.
Eris was co-commissioned between Picture This, Film London Artists' Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) and Lighthouse, as part of the Sea-change residency
